Cord Garcia Finishes Atop Flight C

The final starting flight of the APT Main Event in Sarasota drew 78 entries, putting the total entries for the Main Event at 255. A total of 18 players survived Flight C, and tomorrow they will join the other 27 who qualified for Day 2 in flights A and B.

Flight C chip leader Cord Garcia is no stranger to tournament success, and it is not surprising to see him bag the chip lead today. Garcia won a WSOP bracelet in the $565 buyin Colossus at the 2015 WSOP and since then has managed to win a WSOP Circuit ring and two HPT titles. Garcia started amassing chips in the early levels of play, had the chip lead at the dinner break, and held that lead until the end of the day, despite doubling a few people up in the last level of play. He finished the day with 168,600 chips.

Peter Dragar shot up the counts late in the day, finishing second in chips just behind Garcia with 168,100. Bret McCown (140,400), Al Hedin (140,300), and John Toth (139,700) round out the top five for Flight C.

Not all were fortunate to bag chips in Flight C, and some notable players who fell short of Day 2 include Roger Martin, Justin Zaki, OB Habib, Jason Oloughlin, and Scott Elliott.

The remaining 45 players in the Main Event will restart tomorrow at 1 p.m. to play down to a winner, with the final table being live-streamed and filmed for airing on television at a later date.

The top 27 players tomorrow will be in the money with a minimum payout of $2,716. The winner will receive $59,258 as well as a $3,000 Championship package. Total prize pool and payout information is available in the link above, and will be posted tomorrow as well.
